we had some time to kill at the school today

my girl spent part of it sketching flowers out of this garden

in other news:

i had a beautiful butterfly lined up in my camera lens

i pushed the button but it wouldn't take

NO MEMORY STICK !!

grrrrrr

i was at work, the memory stick was at home

so ...

day 77 {nutrition} 365

i love teaching my kids by doing

we cook, we clean, we play, we read, we talk, we create, we explore, we adventure

our new project is writing a book on nutrition

it's just for us, just for fun, except that we are learning

each morning, we will draw a piece of food

we will research ~ on the net for now ~ but soon with books from the library

the nutritional value of each food and write that on our page

we will also think of ways we can incorporate each food into our diet

the kids are so gung ho about it, they want to do much more than one page a day

i think that is great and will try to facilitate that as much as possible

after all, my goal was to teach them about nutrition and get

them excited about it. looks like it's working already !

i love that.

day 45 {free hand} 365

jono has started drawing a lot recently
i suggested that he color in one of his drawings and send it to his uncle jimmy
he decided that was a good idea and this is what he drew

it's on it's way soon, uncle jimmy !

the back cracks me up ...

it says
"dear uncle jimmy, this drawing is not traced, it is free hand drawn. love jono"

glad we cleared that up ...

Here's one of my most recent painting projects.

A while back, I did this sketch.

Just started scribbling, really, but liked what happened.

I've been wanting to transfer the sketch to canvas.

Karry suggested we use the projector.

Which I did.
Twice.

And I've started painting.

Similarly on each canvas but with subtle differences.
Just to see what happens.


I have no idea what either of these will look like when they are finished.

But ... here's where I'm up to with them ...

I'll keep you posted as they progress !

Coloring Pages

A few years ago, I stopped buying coloring books for the kids.
Except for when we go on a big overseas trip ... then I let them pick one to take with.
But, other than that, I've found that their tastes change too quickly and they tire of the coloring
book before it is finished, and it's money wasted. I dislike money wasted. Don't you ?



I've found that printing one picture at a time is a better solution.

I can print whatever takes their fancy at that moment.
Like yesterday, Jono wanted a football and Alia wanted a Princess.

I just go to google.com ... put in "Princess coloring pages" or whatever it is they want,
click images in the top left hand corner and it brings up blank coloring pages.
The kids pick the one they want. I hit print. Voila !

esti at pintame el dia is an amazing artist !! i love her drawings. and now i find that she has her drawings on shirts ! oh my !! and she's giving three of her shirts away !! go check it out ... you have to enter before the 14th of june if you want to win one !

my friend alex wrote a post earlier in the week that i found very challenging. you should go read it but i'll just give you a one sentence taste ... ask the question: "in light of my present responsibilities, my past experiences, and my future hopes and dreams, is this a wise use of my time?" let him know you stopped by ! and here's a bit of trivia you may or may not like to know alex and i were friends in highschool in spain. he was a great writer then. and he is an even better writer now. i love that he has a blog.

going through all of the corner view posts takes me days ... but i love visiting because i have discovered the most beautiful places all over the world and i love it !! i actually have all the participants in my google reader now, under a 'corner view' heading so i can just visit the ones who have actually participated each week. i think that will make it quicker. but, i'm sidetracked. i wanted to show you this blog ... ma life a moi. she has really neat photos. i love all the rounded edges. and you know, it seems she only posts in french, except for the corner view posts, which are in french, english AND spanish !! but it doesn't matter. the photos are enough ... and i may learn some french along the way !! or maybe not. alia just asked me to read some out loud and i did and she was cracking up ! but anyway ... look at this door post.

I'm wondering if any of you know what the proper blog etiquette is when wanting to post an example of someone's work on your blog. Do you have to ask permission to post a photo from someone's blog or can you just post it and give them the credit for the photo ?? I wanted to post images from each of these blogs ... (well, except Alex's because the only images on his blog are made with words) but I wasn't sure ... so I didn't. I just drew up some silly pictures and posted them ...

oh ... and a little side note for jane ... my painting posts.

Guess What We Did Yesterday ???

We bought a house !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We're pretty excited !

We've never bought a house before ....

If everything goes as planned, we should be moving in 30 days from today !!

I know you probably want to see a photo.

I thought about posting it but I just couldn't bring myself to do it.

I think blogging / using the internet calls for wisdom and posting a photo of our house ...

Well, it just doesn't sit right.

Of course, once we move in, I'll take plenty of photos of the inside for you all to enjoy !!

For now, you'll have to make do with my little drawing.

Which, by the way, looks nothing like our new house !!
