Sharing Passion Fruit
I planted this passion fruit vine in our back yard a couple of years ago.
The plan was for it to grow along the fence yielding heaps of fruit for our picking.
Instead it grew up into a tree.
A very very tall tree !
It's yielding heaps of fruit, just not for the picking.
We have to wait for them to get ripe and then drop off the tree !
Which they do ...
And they are delicious !!
And one day Jill, cousin of mine, when you come to visit me in Australia,
I'm going to make you eat this fruit that looks like it threw up all over itself !
And you're going to like it !!!

I've never had passion fruit and would not have been able to guess what it was. If I ever see any around here, I'll have to try it!
I have never had passion fruit, but it does look a little gross. I am sure it tastes better than it looks. :)
That description makes me laugh,
I've never tried that but I bet it's good.
Will you make Jill a Pavlova? She will be hooked on passion fruit for life, as I am!
i'm sure i will! passion fruit juice is super good, why wouldn't the weird looking fruit also be tasty?! also, is there sushi involved in this prospect? 'cause then i'll for sure eat it.
I'm gonna have to go with Jill on this...I love things that have passion fruit flavoring in them...but that fruit looks pretty gross!
I would have known that was a passion fruit! We eat it all the time here in Uganda...super cheap, makes GREAT juice, and you can mix it into mango, banana and pineapple fruit salad...delicious! Thanks for praying for Regina, by the way! Bless you!
Was it Passion Fruit that we ate in Spain? If so, I seem to recall it was quite tasty!
YAY I was right. I LOVE Passion fruit it is delicious, we ate a lot of it back in South Africa :)
That was wicked cool!
I am curious about the *texture* though. Do you eat the seeds? Are they soft? Like raisins? Or crunchy, like a sunflower seed? Do you eat the fruit up to the rind? Is the rind bitter?
Leeann<--- the curious and uneducated.
Leeann,
Good questions ! You do eat the seeds, just scoop the whole thing out with a spoon and eat ! Have you ever eaten a pomegranate ? It's SORT OF like that ... except the stuff around the seeds on a passion fruit is a bit softer. The seeds are hard ... like a sunflower seed. You don't really chew them though ... just sort of swallow ! Really yummy on yoghurt or ice cream or pavlova !! I may have to make a pavlova and post it !! You do eat the fruit up to the rind and my guess is that it would be bitter but I've never tried it to see !! ha ha
That is amazing that that grew right in your own backyard!!
