Corner View {Birds}

The theme for this week is birds. 

I.LOVE.BIRDS.  I take lots of photos of birds!  LOTS.  

Today, I took some photos of my puppy ... after he was barking at the birds! 

It's a good thing he is so cute!  

But seriously ... does anyone have any tricks for how 

to teach your puppy that birds are not something to bark at?!

i can't believe that it has been over a month since i last posted to either of my blogs!

i miss it.  actually there are lots of things i miss at the moment.  like reading.

and taking photos with my big camera.  and soaking in a hot bath.  and

cooking for pleasure, not just to feed my family.  and playing piano.

and painting.  oh, how i miss painting.  and crafting.  but lately

i just haven't had time to do any of these things.  is it the 

new puppy?  is it the busyness of two kids and 

their after school activities?  is it the lack

of space in my brain because it's so

full of everything else? i am

not sure, but i mean to

figure it out.  you

see, i'm not

one 

to just

say, oh well,

this is just how it

is ... sure, i have to say 

that for a time because some

times it is just a busy week or two, 

but i refuse to say it forever and just give

up on the things that bring such pleasure to my life.
the other day, i was driving home from somewhere and out
of the corner of my eye, as we drove past the lake, i noticed baby
black swans! i decided to jump on this opportunity!  i stopped home to
grab my camera and turned around and drove back.  i took somewhere near
100 photos of these beauties and i felt so invigorated! i intend to make time for such
things much more regularly! don't worry, i'm not going to post all the photo i took but here
are a few of my favorites ...

Little Corella

I bought another bird house the other day.

I filled it up with seeds for big birds.

This morning, we had a visit from two big birds !!

They are called Little Corella's.

They are beautiful !

And fun to watch.

Cheeky.

Noisy.

And sweet with each other.

Until one of them 'rocks the boat'.

And the other one is left hanging on for dear life !

 

And then off they go ......

I hope they visit again soon !!

How {do I get up} There ?

Finally, the birds have discovered the new bird feeder.  My intention was that this smaller feeder would be for the smaller birds ... but apart from one sparrow, these are the first birds I've seen use it.  They are way too big for it, as you can see !  But, it made for great entertainment ...

 

"hmmm, how did he get in there ?  how can i get up there too ?"

 

"uh, can you see me still ?"  

 

"how 'bout now ? can you see me now ?"

 

"something is not quite right about this ... almost, but not quite..."

"maybe i can get in this way ..."

jump !

"yes, i'm in !"

"now scootch over so i can have some too ..."

 

"i'm outta here !"

 

Name that bird ...

 

I have no idea what kind of bird this is.  

I saw him for the first time last week on my back patio. He flew in, hovered in front of a spider web and plucked the spider right out of the centre of it's comfy home.  I was mind blown.  It was so cool !  I was wishing that I'd had a camera !  Not that I would have been able to capture it ... he is super quick.

Yesterday, two of them came and had a little bath in our bird bath.  Again, too quick ... they were gone before I could get the camera ready ...

Then this morning they were in our tree.  One of them flew off pretty quick but this little guy hung around long enough for me to get my camera focused on him.  I snapped just as he took off ... this is the resulting photo !!  

I love it.

Anyone have any idea what sort of bird this is ?  He's quite small ... only a little bit bigger than a hummingbird.  Long pointy beak.  Very fast flyer.  

Corner View {Impression}

This week's theme is 'impression' ... I thought about posting pictures of one of my paintings, but then I took this photo and I just love it.  It's blurry and not at all how I hoped it would turn out.  The bird is a beautiful rainbow lorikeet, covered in wonderful colors !  But I just grabbed my camera and snapped before looking at my settings !  By the time I was able to adjust the settings, he had flown off.

When I was thinking about the word 'impression' ... this photo just came to mind.

Dancing Birdies

These birds were flying around trying to land on each other for ages the other day.

I don't think they were trying to do anything that should have been kept private ... they just seemed

to scream at each other, dance around each other and try to stand on top of each other.

A perfect landing !

What you are looking at in the photo above is TWO BIRDS !  It looks like one though, doesn't it ?

Careful there little fella, don't fall off !

"Do you mind if I just sit here for a bit?"

"Uh, yeah, I mind !!  I'm going to dive towards the ground while you are sitting there !"

I don't know what they were doing but they entertained me for quite some time !!

Fluffy Feeder

I love this fluffy bird just sitting in the bird seed !!

Corner {Fauna} View

Corner View last week was 'flora' so it naturally followed that it would be 'fauna' this week.

These beautiful birds are frequent visitors to our front yard feeder.

And on this particular day, it was quite windy and cold.



Can you see how fluffy the feathers are ?  I think this must be in an effort to keep warm !!
