This week's theme ... "your style"

My style is pretty much jeans and something on top.
A t-shirt, a singlet, something a bit nicer ... it all works with jeans.
Pretty boring right ? I agree ... but it's me, at least it's me right now ...

But, earlier in the week, my six year old daughter called me into her room to help her choose her outfit for the day. She had them all laid out and wondered which one looked best. She's been dressing herself since she was about two, so I was a little surprised that I was called in for a 'consultation' ! She's always been very particular about her outfits and definitely has her own individual style ! Sometimes I think I should let her chose my clothes ... except that I don't own any leggings ...

And that might pose a problem because her style these days includes leggings. ALWAYS. I should have taken shares in the leggings company ! Seriously ... we go through so many pairs of them ! And she's forever climbing trees and falling off skateboards/rip sticks so the knees are always dirty or have holes in them !! But, I'd rather the leggings have holes than her actual knees ...

She thinks of everything ... plans it all out ... even down to the hair clips ...

Sometimes I wonder what the future holds for this daughter of mine.
I know it is something amazing ... I'm excited to watch it unfold !!

Your daughter laid out a perfect style corner view for you when she laid out her clothes! :)

Hey Bonnie, thanks for the comment on my blog. I don't always fix different meat, just trying to watch my cholesterol and I'm the only one in my family who likes chicken and fish (unless it's batterred and deep fried!) So I just find that if I fix my family pork chops, I'll just replace mine with a chicken breast or something else that easy but healthy.

Yes, I fix my breadstick dough in the bread machine and when I take it out, after it rests, I separate the dough into breadstick shapes and let them rise. Just like you would do if you were making yeast rolls. After they rise, bake them at 350 for 10-12 minutes. I try to make the breadsticks small since they will rise to almost double. I used to brush them with garlic butter but the next time, I'll brush them with some canola oil and sprinkle with garlic powder.

My 20 year old still wears a lot of leggings and I used to wear them back when we still lived in an area with snowy winters, so it's not too late for you to follow your daughter's example. When it gets really cold, they make nice long underwear under jeans.

oh my gosh. this sounds so much like my 5 year old girl and her friend. in fact, her mom and i just had a conversation about where to buy leggings right now because none of the stores have them (and they are impossible to find used in decent condition for the reasons you shared)!
i love the combinations they put together at this age!

So cute! Luxe does the same thing. She'll even lay next to the outfit so I have an even better visual. Those clever girls!

My 5 year old does leggings too - all the time.
I love that she chooses and lays out her clothes. So cute.
I love jeans too but here in thailand with the humidity of it can be tricky.

your daughter is a smart one! we found out the hard way that tights are worthless purchases - unless they are hanna andersson tights which do hold up well - most others get holes in them on the first use. leggings are way more useful and we've become converts! my girls almost always wear leggings under their dresses and skirts.

How cute is she!!!! I think my favorite part was the hair clips :)

I actually read this sweet post last night but didn't have time to comment! I am SO NOT like your daughter. I wish I could plan out every outfit down to the hairclips. It will be very exciting to watch her future unfold!

Love your daughters style, and that she has been always so clear about it since she could dress herself...aaah the mind of a child is a beautiful thing... and love that she is choosing all her accessories as well...

Anonymous January 22, 2010 at 3:46 AM

Wow, she's a very organized little girl. And details...details...she sees them ;-)

jane January 23, 2010 at 7:47 AM

oh she is too cute. can she come help me?... ;)

Ida/FarEastLogbook January 24, 2010 at 6:56 AM

Sweet. My sister was the same way, started dressing herself from age two and ONLY wore dresses from she was 4 to 7 years old.

shayndel January 25, 2010 at 9:31 AM

My daughter did this too when she was around 6!!I completely forgot, and it's a fun memory to see how your daughter plans her outfits.
I could write a long comment, about how she's influenced my fashion, and how now at 10 she knows so much from mags!!! But maybe better to leave a surprise, for you to discover the wonders as she grows and as you influence each other. Best wishes and ENJOY!!!xo

Daan January 27, 2010 at 6:43 PM
