Our Sunflower Is Blooming !!

It is still quite short but already the flowers are coming out !

This is the only open flower, but there are heaps of buds that, I'm sure, will soon follow suit !

If you look very carefully on this one,
you will see a baby praying mantis.
Just it's head ... and antennae !
On the bottom of the flower.
Don't confuse it with
the piece of dried
grass on the
yellow
bit
!

Let me know what exactly you do with a sunflower. We got one from our CSA last summer and beyond putting it in a jar and displaying it...I was at a loss!

How my mind works. First thoughts: Pipas, Chipiona, Heliotrope, Beautiful Flowers. We had some big sunflowers at the Fort Meade house. It's really hard to find that praying mantis but well worth the trouble. Then on reflection. Brilliant yellow of the flowers. Nice blog post. Clever formatting of the text. Bonnie is very observant of nature, and creative in communicating, and clever! I'm so glad--and proud...

Dad ! The Fort Meade sunflowers are my inspiration for growing these ... although, at the moment these are not even 1/4 the size of those !!
