Journal

I have a tendency to be negative.
It's true.
Unfortunate as it may be.

One thing I've started doing when I feel like
being negative,
complaining,
whining,
or throwing myself a pity party
is
trying to focus on what I'm thankful for.

I've started a journal.
A nice leather one that I bought a while ago and have been saving,
you know,
for something special.

And so, I write.
Doesn't matter what it is.
I just list the things as they come to mind.

Here's a page from a couple days ago.
Just one page ...

It helps.
It helps me put things in perspective.
It helps me take my eyes off my situation or whatever it is that's 'buggin' me.
It's simple.
And so,
I will continue to do it.
Continue to write.
Continue to be thankful.
Because, really,
I have
so
so
so
much to be thankful for.

How about you ?

I collect tea cups- I love them. I have one that Mark's Grandma gave me with a handwritten note. Now that she's gone- it's such a treasure to me. I also have one for each of the girls. I got them in Russia and we have their Russian names written on the cups.

Thankfulness Thursday. That's what it is - not that we should need a special day to be thankful, but sometimes it seems that way. I love what you wrote and heck, I think I would rip that page out and stick it to my forehead. :)

Thanks for sharing.

Bonnie,

I was so surprised to read this post. You have never struck me as being even slightly negative!

I am glad that you saved your journal for something special and that now you can write down all your positive thoughts. I think that is brilliant!

I know what you mean Bonnie, I have those days. And so this is a great idea. Sometimes we need to write what it is we are thankful for to really realise how blessed we are.
This post reminded me of one of my devotions this week - When we are down, try looking up. By doing this we focus on God and good things and thoughts happen. We get our eyes off ourselves and gain a new appreciation of God and life.
Thanks for sharing.

Enjoyed reading...I wish I was a journal type girl, but I'm not. It's hard for me because I don't want people to read it, and here you go and share yours. Good for you!

I am thankful that I have a beautiful, healthy child and a husband who loves me to the moon and back. That's all. . .not much else needed at this point in my life, well, except for a 2nd beautiful, healthy child. We'll see.
Thanks for making me think of my blessings today.

You have never seemed to be negative, but we all have our personal struggles that don't make it to the light of the blog, right? The journal is a great idea. I need to do something like that too, because I've been so worn down lately. I've been snappy at my kids and just a bit on the cranky side. I think a thankful journal would be a good idea for me, too.

Amen. Do you think perhaps thankfulness is the great antidote for negativity? I guess one of the biggest things I am thankful for is the gift of thankfulness itself, that great remedy for a life of negativity!

How timely! I was only thinking yesterday how I need to resume my journal writing, even expressing those thoughts I don't dare elsewhere.

I am going through a time of feeling very low, a heaviness - so your post has really hit the mark...to the journal again.

I so can't imagine you being negative at all, you're refreshingly real and lovely.

You make a difference!

Great post Bonnie, I used to keep journals and then stopped after I got married, I just feel like I keep forgetting to write in there. I think my blog has become my journal LOL

I'm with Leeanne on this one. Don't ever remembered reading anything that was THAT negative, but I'm glad to know the things you are thankful for. Like reading the journal and seeing it in that form! plus the tea looks rosy and sweet. Is the tea modeling off the new china set you got, if so it's beautiful!

You've never struck me as negative either, but we do all have our times of being upset or down. I think the way you handle it is great!

Yes, very beautiful the way you wrote your thanks on that lovely purple page.
Truly our thoughts shape our world, and I see you making a beautiful world by shaping your thoughts into thanks...
Thanks for the lovely post. Ohh, and that tea cup is gorgeous!!
